When we can, we often build with beetle kill pine sourced from local mills that responsibly harvest standing dead trees for fire mitigation. These pine trees that have been standing dead (in some cases for 20-30 years) often develop unique and beautiful blue/gray steaks from a fungus spread by beetles that are also responsible for the death of the tree. Sourcing from and supporting these mills by repurposing the lumber not only helps ensure the health of our forests, but also transforms a potential environmental challenge into stunning, durable furniture pieces.
